Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera could miss the club's crunch clash with Premier League table-toppers Chelsea on Sunday, according to Goal.com.
It's been suggested that the Spanish ace - who was replaced at half-time in the Red Devils' 2-2 draw with West Brom at the Hawthorns last night - aggravated his broken rib after being rushed back from the injury he picked up against West Ham United on September 27.
In fact, it's been revealed that the Spaniard had to wear a corset last night, but it appears that it didn't stop him from suffering the injury setback. It appears, then, that the Manchester United medical staff will assess the midfielder over the coming days, as he looks to prove his fitness for Sunday.
In truth, though, Herrera endured a poor night at the Hawthorns, and struggled to make any kind of impact on the match. It remains to be seen as to whether Van Gaal would be willing to hand him a place in the starting XI even if he's declared fit to play.
Van Gaal does have a number of options available in his midfield, however, with the likes of Daley Blind, Marouane Fellaini, Darren Fletcher and Michael Carrick hoping for game-time.
Blind, of course, has been a key figure for the club since signing from Ajax, whilst Fellaini finally proved his credentials for the club after scoring a fine goal against West Brom. Carrick, meanwhile, took to the bench for the first time this season last night after a long injury lay-off, and will be hoping to make an impact under Van Gaal sooner rather than later.
Manchester United certainly can't afford to suffer a defeat at the hands of Jose Mourinho's side on Sunday, with the Red Devils already 10 points off the pace at the top of the league table.
Van Gaal, then, will be hoping that the likes of Angel di Maria, Robin van Persie and Co. are at their best against the Blues, as the Red Devils go in search of all three points.
