Manchester United still haven’t solved their defensive problems if last night’s 2-2 draw against West Brom last night was anything to go by - and it seems Jamie Carragher has come up with the solution for them.
The former Liverpool defender believes Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal needs to target a move for Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels to shore things up at the back. The Dutchman is well aware of Hummels it seems and has been linked with a move for him for some time now.
Manchester United lost both Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand over the summer and drafted in Marcos Rojo, who has struggled to find his feet so far. Asked on Twitter by a fan about which centre-back Manchester United should buy, the Liverpool legend replied simply: "Hummels".
The German international who is valued at £32 million, would appear to be the perfect fit for the job however he's been named as Dortmund captain and is unlikely to be going anywhere anytime soon. Ron Vlaar of Aston Villa has been suggested as a possible alternative.
Back to last night and Van Gaal says his team produced the best away performance during his time in charge as they battled to a draw at the Hawthorns.
Van Gaal was particularly impressed with how his team fought back from going behind twice - although they are yet to record a win on the road this season.
Waste of money
And finally there was a rather embarrassing moment for Ed Woodward last night. The executive vice-chairman was caught on camera seemingly blasting one unidentified Manchester United player as a waste of money.
