This past week on Monday Night Raw, Rusev was involved in another controversial segment when he was about to pull down the United States flag, before hitting a vicious super kick on an American ‘soldier’.
If you tuned into Monday Night Raw or you’ve managed to witness the incident somewhere, you’ll have your own opinion on whether the ring invader was legitimate or not. But the reality is that it was always planned and he was not an American soldier.
After defeating Big E., Rusev and Lana were waiting for their customary Russian flag to drop from the ceiling but after The Big Show’s face was seen on the titan-tron, it was clear he had something to do with the delay.

The American flag dropped down instead as Lana and Rusev vented their frustrations out inside the ring, shouting before Lana ordered Rusev to pull down the flag, exactly like The Big Show did with the Russian flag before the WWE issued an apology.
We at WWE would like to apologise to the Russian people for the incident on Monday Night Raw that could have been construed as disrespect for their nation’s flag.
This time the tables were turned but Rusev was unable to pull the flag down in time as a ‘member’ of the US armed forces invaded the ring which resulted in Rusev retreating for a second as security tried to pull the man back.
He actually managed to get to Rusev after getting past security but then ate a vicious super kick for his troubles as the fans vented their anger out on the brute.
Fans that were in attendance have reported that the man wasn’t even in attendance for the show, in fact he only appeared minutes before the segment was due to take place and it was clear the security didn’t really try their best to stop him’ if he was an invader then judging by the size of the guards there, he wouldn’t have made it to the ring.
This is the second incident from this feud but the tones of the commentators were very different, praising The Big Show when he pulled down the Russian flag but ridiculing Rusev when he attempted to do the same.
The invader wasn’t wearing the proper army uniform either, the WWE used a method most films use so they don’t desecrate the US armed faces; for example the clear indication which showed it was a work was the fact that the United States flag on his sleeve was on the wrong arm, something used to avoid going against US law of replicating their uniform.
Regardless of the controversy, this is proving to be an entertaining feud, more entertaining than anticipated as Rusev has really pushed the limits now heading into Hell in a Cell. Some might find it disrespectful – which it is if done in the incorrect manner – but the segment on Monday Night Raw was the perfect way to continue building Rusev and Lana up as people who genuinely dislike the USA and the people; something previous gimmicks from other superstars have failed to do.
WWE fans – what do you think? Have the WWE gone too far with this latest stunt? Or was it the perfect way to get heat on Rusev? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
