AC Milan CEO Adriano Galliani has talked up interest in Liverpool’s young star Suso, according to Sky Sports.
Suso’s current contract expires next summer and with no indication that the Merseyside giants are set to offer the young midfielder a new deal any time soon, this would enable him to speak with interested clubs in January.
Galliani highlighted this situation in an interview with Sky Sports, stating: “Suso to AC Milan in January? He is a player with a contract expiring in June who must decide whether to stay at Liverpool or go elsewhere. We’ll see in January.”
If the Italian club manage to secure the Liverpool youngster’s services on a free transfer, it holds the potential to be one of the deals of the summer with the Spaniard widely tipped to be one of the stars of the future.
Suso joined Liverpool in 2010 from Cadiz CF with a fast-developing reputation in football. With the youth development facilities on offer at Liverpool, it was thought at the time to be a fantastic deal which could work in the favour of both parties.
Despite making an appearance as a substitute in a friendly against Borrussia Moenchengladbach in 2010, it wasn’t until 2012 under Brendan Rodgers that he was able to make his competitive debut. This came in a substitute appearance at Manchester United in the Premier League, yet still Suso was unable to break into the first team.
In order to give him more playing time, the U-21 international was sent on loan to La Liga side Almeria for the 2013-14 season, where he managed to make 35 appearances.
However, having returned to Anfield for this season, Suso is yet to make a first-team start. Even in the Capital One Cup tie against Middlesborough, his only taste of football was as a substitute. Despite this, he impressed when given the chance, scoring a vital goal in extra time and the winning penalty in a thrilling 14-13 shootout.
Khedira also discussed
The possibility of signing Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira was also discussed.
Like Suso, Khedira’s contract expires in the summer but Galliani conceded that his signature would be an expensive one:
“Khedira? He would be good for AC Milan but earns a lot of money. If he doesn’t extend his contract with Real Madrid, he will ask for a very high salary.”
It appears that the Serie A giants are determined to get their 2015 business done early, and these two players would certainly bolster the AC Milan side.
