Graziano Pelle is the man who can provide the goals that can take Southampton into the Champions League next season.
The Italian striker has scored seven goals this season for his new team which has propelled them to third position in the Premier League table.
The Saints have exceeded all expectations with their superb start to the Premier League season. Although many have doubted whether they can keep it up and finish in the top four, Pelle's goals will be vital to any expectation they have of achieving the feat.
Champions League aim
Although the Saints have made a fantastic start to the new campaign, it is a tough ask for them to keep it up with some big games coming up against Arsenal and Manchester City.
If they are striving to aim high then the goal for any club in England's elite league is Champions League football especially with a turbulent summer well and truly behind them.
Ronald Koeman is known to be an ambitious manager, and his start to life in England could not have gone any better. There is no reason why he shouldn't he be aiming to steer the club towards the Champions League, especially with players like Pelle at his disposal.
Pelle joined Southampton from Feyenoord with an exceptional record with the Rotterdam outfit, having scored 55 goals in 66 appearances spanning two seasons. Although the tally is impressive, the Premier League was always going to be a step up for Pelle compared to the Eredivisie.
He was slow off the mark for his new team, opening his account during the Capital One Cup match at Millwall in what was his third game in the red and white of Southampton.
Since then though, the goals have flowed and with his two on Saturday taking his tally for the season to seven, and a goal on his international debut for Italy to boot, the striker is definitely the man who can lead the Saints to glory.
Pelle also has the ability to rely on the creativity and delivery of another star performer of the current season, Dusan Tadic. Tadic has also been in great form since he joined Southampton this summer, contributing seven assists and a goal.
It is his connection with Pelle though, that has proved to be another Koeman master-stroke.
Both men plied their trade in Holland last year, and although on different sides then, the ability of Tadic to create and Pelle to finish is already causing havoc to Premier League defences.
Should this link continue to work so well over the course of the season, there may be no stopping Southampton on their pursuit of the top four.
