The Capital One Cup gets back underway this week, with some of the biggest teams in the country shifting their focus away from the Premier League to try and claim a place in the quarter-finals.

Some big names have already fallen including Manchester United and Arsenal in the competition, so the likes of Chelsea and Liverpool will have to be on their toes to avoid the same fate.

Shrewsbury v Chelsea

We start with the Blues who go up against Shrewsbury Town at New Meadow this evening. Jose Mourinho's side will be disappointed to have dropped points against Manchester United at the weekend, but have a good chance to bounce back and move one step closer to claiming some silverware.

Chelsea failed to win a single trophy last season so that could mean that the Capital One Cup could be given a higher priority in west London this time round. Despite that, given the nature of their opponents expect Chelsea to mix things up and make a host of changes - the likes of Petr Cech, Willian, Kurt Zouma, Jon Obi-Mikel and Mohammed Salah should all come into the side.

Prediction: Shrewsbury 0-3 Chelsea

Liverpool v Swansea

Next up and the games are coming thick and fast for Liverpool - and there's no respite this week as they take on Swansea. So far it seems the Reds have struggled to cope with the demands of plying in extra competitions this season, and they could only record a 0-0 draw with Hull over Hull on Saturday, which followed their second Champions League defeat of the season against Real Madrid earlier in the week.

Mourinho to make plenty of changes for Shrewsbury clash

Brendan Rodgers does have a sizeable squad on his hands but is in a tricky situation - his opponents are going well this season and a defeat would further damage confidence so he may have to field some of his first team players. That of course is a risk with a showdown against Newcastle on Saturday. Difficult times for Liverpool lie ahead.

Prediction: Liverpool 1-2 Swansea

Manchester City v Newcastle

On to Wednesday and Manchester City are another team going into their cup game on the back of a disappointing Premier League result against West Ham, and with their Champions League campaign not exactly going well, a run in the Capital One Cup may be just what the doctor ordered.

They take on a Newcastle side buoyed by a much-needed win over Tottenham at the weekend. Main man Sergio Aguero is likely to sit this one out, giving Stefan Jovetic a chance to stake his claim to a regular starting spot.

Prediction: Manchester City 2-0 Newcastle

Tottenham v Brighton

And finally, Spurs have shown a real lack of consistency this term so it would take a brave man to bet on them securing a spot in the quarter finals at the expense of Brighton. They fought off a valiant Nottingham Forest last time round and have looked good in mid-week in Europe, so perhaps tomorrow's game will give Mauricio Pochettino's team the chance to release the handbreak.

Prediction: Tottenham 1-0 Brighton
