WWE: What next for Ryback?

Published 4 Comments

This past week on Monday Night Raw we witnessed the explosive return of Ryback as he answered the open challenge set by Bo Dallas.

The last time we saw Ryback, he was part of RybAxel alongside Curtis Axel – who didn’t return on Monday Night Raw – as he took part in the over the top rope battle royal for the Intercontinental Championship at the Battleground pay-per-view before undergoing hernia surgery in August.

Ryback’s return also saw the return of his ‘Feed Me More’ gimmick, with the same mannerisms that took him to the top of the WWE when he challenged CM Punk for the WWE Championship, topped off with the zoomed-in entrance on the stage as he returned as a fan favourite once more.

It raises the question as to what the WWE have in store for Ryback now that he is a face once again?

It looks highly unlikely that Ryback will be inserted into the WWE World Heavyweight Championship picture any time soon, with Lesnar and Cena set to battle once more before a potential Roman Reigns championships victory at WrestleMania; Ryback will have a lot of waiting to do to be placed back in the title picture, and during that time he will need to do something special.

It’s been confirmed that at Survivor Series John Cena will assemble a team will take on Team Authority, likely to be spearheaded by Seth Rollins with Kane in his corner, amongst other heels. Monday Night Raw saw one man already confirm his place in Cena’s team if nothing goes wrong in the build-up, Dolph Ziggler should be Cena’s first partner.

This being a traditional Survivor Series match means there are still a number of spots open, and Ryback should be one of them. It’s unclear whether Ryback will be placed into a solid feud upon his return or whether they’ll hold off on a feud until Survivor Series is over. This will allow the WWE to build Ryback into a massive threat once more and he will be a valuable asset to Team Cena.

Curtis Axel hasn’t made his return yet and it’s unclear whether the duo will be reuniting or not but a face reunion for the pair would be good for the tag team division as a whole. Ever since The Usos dropped the championships and Luke Harper and Erick Rowan moved on from The Wyatt Family; the tag team division has been dull.

A face RybAxel would be a perfect way to reignite the tag team division, especially if the fans stay behind Ryback and they’re feuding with Gold and Stardust.

When Curtis Axel does return, he won’t need to return as a face like Ryback. If the pair don’t team up again then a feud should be on the cards, it will allow the fans to really hate Curtis Axel as he is a better heel than he is a face, and if the fans stay behind Ryback and his face push then the feud could be a success. It’s just a question of whether Ryback could be too big for a feud with Axel.

An interesting route for Ryback to go down would be for The Human Wrecking Ball to take on The Bulgarian Brute. Rusev has been on a terror, defeating every single person who has stepped in front of him, from Jack Swagger to Mark Henry and most recently The Big Show. Fans will be calling for Rusev to take on Sheamus and snatch the United States Championship from him, but if that doesn’t go ahead soon then Ryback would be a viable option which would make for an interesting encounter.
