Ravi Bopara exclusive: What goes on tour doesn't always stay on tour

Ravi Bopara has been on numerous tours with England during his seven years as an international player and, over that time, has numerous on-field and off-field highlights to reflect upon.

The batsman was speaking exclusively to GiveMeSport to answer questions from fans of his official Facebook page, and was asked to select some memorable incidents from his various England tours.

Bopara has fond memories of playing overseas with England, having scored his maiden Test century during a winter in the West Indies, and it is this particular moment that still resonates most strongly.

"If it is cricket related, then it is the hundred I scored at Barbados on my return to test cricket, which was quite good fun," Bopara said.

In terms of off-field antics, Bopara divulged details of an instance teammate Jade Dernbach would have rather had been kept private. What does on tour does not always stay on tour, it would seem.

Bopara added: "There is also time off the pitch where I have had good moments and one that really sticks out is when I caught Jade Dernbach having a bit of ‘Jade time' if you know what I mean."

He went on to discuss which path his career may have taken should he not have been a professional cricketer. But Bopara couldn't resist using it as an opportunity to have another dig at a teammate or two.

"Although a lot of people take school seriously, I was one of those who actually didn’t to be quite honest. So if I had another profession, I would probably be Steve Finn’s or Jade Dernbach’s professional hair stylist that goes around on tour with them."

Back to on-field duties, and Bopara revealed he still has IPL ambitions having played for King's XI Punjab in both the 2009 and 2010 seasons.

"I would like to play in the next IPL yes, it would be nice," he added.

"I know there is no international or one day cricket at the time so it would be nice to be involved in the IPL.

"I’ve done it before and it was amazing fun. I learnt a lot as a cricketer and yes it would be nice to be involved."

The Essex man went unsold in the IPL auction in both 2012 and 2013, however he could be seen in action again during the upcoming season.
