There are strong rumours entering the ever-growing mill that Chelsea are planning a surprise bid to lure Gerard Pique back to the Premier League.
But the Daily Star Mourinho will have to scoop a huge £24 million out of his back pocket if he is expecting the Spaniard to join the Premier League title favorites.
The 27-year-old centre half didn't live up to his reputation in the mouth watering El Clasico on Saturday which saw Madrid demolish a sorry Barcelona 3-1.
But despite his unsatisfactory performance at the weekend, he is rated very highly and the Catalan club will be expecting a fee of at least £24 million for him.
Jose Mourinho certainly splashed the cash over the summer, but his spending spree has evidently worked as the Blues sit comfortably at the top of the table four points clear.
Their talismanic forward Diego Costa has proved to be an incredible addition as Mourinho scooped him up for £32 million.
- Drogba could become vital to Chelsea once again
- Jose Mourinho mocked by Raymond Domenech
- Manchester United to submit bid for Miranda
Also joining Chelsea in the summer from Atletico was Filipe Luis, costing him half the price of their free scoring star.
So it would seem that Jose Mourinho has a sweet tooth for players that feature in La Liga and Pique could be the next on his way to West London.
Chelsea fans should not hold their breath for too long. Despite the ex-Manchester United defender playing down a return to Old Trafford, the 27-year-old has also said that he will be staying at Barcelona.
"I've always wanted to retire here and, if possible, stay here all my career. I'm a Barcelona fan, I have been since I was a kid and I want to stay" stated the Spanish international.
But can Mourinho use his charm, with the helping hand of filthy rich owner Roman Abramovich, lure Pique to Chelsea. With a chance of Premier League glory and a healthy salary, could the 27-year-old mark his return to the big time?
