Klaas-Jan Huntelaar is reportedly in talks with current club Schalke over a new contract, despite the club stating they were open to January offers for the 31-year-old.
The Dutch international has been on the radar of Tottenham, Arsenal and Liverpool for some time now, however it seems the Premier League trio will have to look elsewhere.
The German side were reportedly ready to cash in on the former Real Madrid and Ajax man who is out of contract at the end of the season, before he recently held talks with the club, declaring his interest in furthering his career in Germany.
TALKS HAVE BEEN HELD
Schalke's general manager, Horst Heldth, told BILD that talks have been held and that Huntelaar is keen on renewing his contract.
"I am able to confirm a chat with Huntelaar," Heldth said.
"It was a good conversation. Both parties have signalled a basic interest in a new agreement to carry on together in the future."
No matter where in his well-travelled career Huntelaar has played; he has managed to rack up a decent goalscoring record, making him of obvious appeal to big clubs.
The striker has scored 36 goals in 66 games for Holland, as well as 18 in 21 games for the U21's. He has netted 62 times in 107 appearances for Schalke, with his finest goalscoring record being at Ajax, where he netted an incredible 76 goals in just 92 matches.
His playing style would be well suited to the English game - a big, solid centre forward who would likely be able to cope with the strength of defences and pace that the Premier League boasts.
Schalke currently sit in 12th position in the Bundesliga after a slow start to the season, which has resulted in four losses in the opening nine games.
Compared to the third position in which they finished last season, the German side are in trouble. They need to hit form and start recording some good results rather quickly, or else their campaign could suffer.
Huntelaar has maintained his goal-scoring know-how, netting seven times in 11 games so far this season, whilst only three have been in the league. He also managed to score the important equaliser in Schalke's 1-1 draw with Chelsea in the Champions League.
