Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal should target defensive duo Mats Hummels and Diego Godin, Olly Murs has exclusively told GiveMeSport.
Murs has insisted that the Red Devils are in need of experienced defenders after losing the likes of Rio Ferdinand, Nemanja Vidic and Co. last summer. And he suggested that Borussia Dortmund defender Hummels would add experience to the side if he completed a move to Old Trafford.
As well as Hummels, Murs has highlighted Godin as a player that would improve the Red Devils, as he compared the Atletico man to former United skipper Vidic.
Murs has, however, insisted that Van Gaal does have a number of exciting young defenders at the club, but believes experience is a must as United go in search of success.
When speaking about the Red Devils defence, Murs told GiveMeSport: "Van Gaal is limited in that position, so I think that it's going to be a position that we will strengthen in the summer and strengthen in January as well.
- United will beat City, providing they attack
- Aguero free to stamp his mark on United
- Pellegrini needs derby day success to keep job
"Van Gaal wants to take this team on-wards, and wants to take this team to the championship and back into the Champions League. He's going to want to do this quickly; he's not going to want to take years to do it.
"Two great centre-halves need to come in. That will make it interesting for places. Smalling and Jones will have to battle for their place. We need the experience in there - someone that's going to organise the back-four.
"You're talking about Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic, who have arguably been the two best defensive pairings that there's been in the past 10 years. So strong - they knew each others games well, they complimented each others game well.
"To find a replacement for them is massively difficult. I think that Jones and Smalling have got huge potential. You've got Paddy McNair and Tyler Blackett: you've got some good young defenders there."
Despite admitting that he has his doubt over Hummels, Murs has insisted that the World Cup-winning German could prove quite the signing for the Old Trafford outfit.
He continued by saying: "I'm a big fan of Mats Hummels. But then I saw him in a couple of games, and he looked like he was struggling. I'm not massively confident at the moment, but he could bring a lot of experience to the team.
"There's also Godin, who plays for Atletico Madrid and Uruguay. He's a top quality centre-half. He reminded me of a Ricardo Carvalho or a Vidic. He's a real tough cookie and is someone I'd be interested in buying as well."
It remains to be seen as to whether Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal moves for either player in the near future, but the duo certainly won't come cheap. Hummels has been rated at around £30 million, whilst Godin has been rated at around the £27m mark.
Olly Murs releases his fourth album “Never Been Better” on November 24th.
