Big title match was a slap in the face of British WWE fans

Published 3 Comments

I like most British WWE fans was very much looking forward to Monday night and the 'launch' of the long awaited WWE Network in Great Britain.

We were told it would be live for us from 8pm GMT and I like many others was very disappointed when THAT announcement was made again.

Within an hour of the launch, it was announced that it wasn't going to happen and that us Brits would have to wait even longer.

This time, instead of giving us a date which they have now done three times, they use the term 'indefinitely'.

This surely leads us all to imagine that the Network will not even be considered for our country for a very long time.

Now this was annoying for me and I imagine it was as annoying for all the other British fans who have had to live without the Network since it launched prior to WrestleMania XXX.

Of course some fans have found ways around the geographical lock but the majority of us haven't or just won't bother and we certainly are paying the price now.

We have already missed out on a lot of original programming that I'm sure we would have all enjoyed but also RAW and PPV pre and post show reaction that we simply don't get on British TV.

And then, tonight happened.....

It was advertised all through RAW tonight that after the show goes off the air, exclusively on the WWE Network, there would a match.

This match would be a United States Championship match between Sheamus and Rusev which one of three things would happen.

  • Rusev would be pinned for the first time ever
  • There would be a title change that some fans couldn't see
  • Or the match would end in a DQ and it would have been nothing more than a marketing ploy.

But as it turned out, option three would not be the one chosen as Rusev would defeat Sheamus to win the United States Championship.

The insult

I understand the WWE trying to up their subscriptions to the network by creating network exclusives and we've had to live with that.

But a title change that happens without a fairly large market being unable to see it is very harsh, but it gets worse.

Why can't arguably the WWE's second biggest market see the match, not cause we're not subscribing, but because they won't let us.

Whatever the reason for the constant changes on the Network launch, the WWE need to consider the harm they are causing to one of their biggest markets.

I think at this point, I like most others would prefer to be told that we won't be getting the network ever and just end our hopes.

I imagine tonight's stunt will cause outrage amongst most British WWE fans and they could actually be starting to turn fans away from the shows as they are now filled with network plugs and constant attempts to get people to subscribe.
