Newcastle United midfielder Jonas Gutierrez has been discharged from hospital in his native Argentina having received the all-clear following his successful battle with testicular cancer.
The 31-year-old had been battling a tumour for the past 18 months after being diagnosed in May 2013, having surgery later that year in October.
Gutierrez returned to his homeland and has since undergone chemotherapy after revealing in September that he was suffering from the disease.
But the former Real Mallorca man took to Twitter on Monday evening to announce, in Spanish: "Today I was given a medical discharge.
"Thank you very much to all who accompanied me at this time, especially my family, my parents, brothers, godmother, friends and @alemaglietti"
He then retweeted congratulatory tweets from followers as well a message from Newcastle: "Everyone at #NUFC is delighted to share the news that @elgalgojonas has been discharged from hospital in Argentina #UnitedWithJonas'.
The Argentine only made six appearances last season having been overlooked by manager Alan Pardew for a large part of the campaign. He was then loaned out to Norwich City where he made his last appearance before receiving treatment against West Bromwich Albion in April.
His last public appearance however was last month in the Buenos Aries Marathon. Despite having just undergone chemotherapy, Gutierrez ran the race to raise awareness of the disease.
