Hello from Zimbabwe! I’ve managed to find some time in my diary to head back home for 10 days to see my family and friends before what could be the busiest 12-18 months of my life.
After a short trip over to Vegas with a few of the lads I went on holiday with my girlfriend and now I’ve managed to go back to Zimbabwe. I certainly feel like I’ve had a productive off-season before I get stuck back into my cricket feeling fully refreshed which I will do next week.
It’s been a great 12-months and I could never have imagined it going this well but this is just the start because I’m determined and motivated to carry on doing well and to build on these performances over the summer.
Having said all of that, I’m still very disappointed to miss out on the Sri Lanka tour but that’s how it goes. There are so many good players around it’s tough to get into that squad but I still get an opportunity to go to Sri Lanka with the performance programme.
Over there I can work hard and work on my skills to keep improving which will give me my best chance to try and get back into that squad for the World Cup.

The performance squad go out there in mid-November until about mid-December, it will be good to experience different conditions against some good bowlers out there. It will be good for my experience and improving as a cricketer.
I have to give myself the best chance of getting into that World Cup squad, I don’t want to be sitting around for three months and do nothing. I want to get back into it and give myself a good chance so if the opportunity does come I can take it with both hands.
I wasn’t in the original performance squad but I wanted to have a bit of time off and get back into it as quick as possible so if something does happen in terms of injuries at least I’ve given myself a good chance.
All I can do is work as hard as possible so when I get my chance, whether that be in the next couple of months or in the next year I just need to take it.
I got into the Yorkshire side through my performances in white ball cricket and it was a similar story in the England Lions too.
I want to keep working on my performances in white ball cricket and it’s something I want to keep improving on, I really want to try and force my way into the squad because I feel like I have a good game for it.
With so many brilliant players around that will be a tough ask but as long as I keep working hard I will give myself the best shot.
