John Cena completely divides opinion within the WWE Universe like no other superstar out there.
On one side you have those that love him, the sheer amount of selfless acts he carries out for troops abroad and the Make-A-Wish foundation. And then there are those that despise his repetitive wrestling style and the fact he is always pushed to the top of a card.
Hogan says Heel
Well, one wrestling legend has come out and said Cena needs to make a change. Hulk Hogan went on the radio today and said Cena would get so much more cheers if he turned heel.
While Cena is not in danger of losing his top spot in the company as a McMahon favorite, it does seem like they are trying to give him a lesser role in their key story-lines. A heel turn has been spoken of with Cena for years by fans and writers, and now so are WWE legends like Hogan.
The Hulkster has spoken this week about why it has taken so long for Cena's character to change even slightly.
- Alberto Del Rio feels bad for WWE stars
- Vince McMahon criticized after Raw
- Kevin Steen will debut in December
"You and I would say that Cena should turn heel right now like I did, and the fans would cheer him more than ever probably"
"When you look at the big picture you see ad buys, sponsorships and amount of revenue generated by merchandise, and the fact that he volunteers to go overseas to see the troops. When he's home he sees troops who were messed up in the war, and make-a-wish kids," Hogan said on Dallas 105.3 THE FAN.
"I guess you can be a bad guy and still generate that type of revenue, which I did." - Hulk Hogan
Unlikely to Happen
Hogan famously turned heel in 1996 at Bash at the Beach and it was one of the best things he did, going from an ageing beloved superstar to a hated villain that gave him a completely new lease of life in wrestling.
However, Hulk turned heel aged 42 while Cena is only 37, and when you take into account the amount of money Cena makes, dwarfing the merchandise sales of everybody else in the WWE, it seems like the company would be stupid to do something that could harm that when they are losing money and cutting budgets.
So what do you think WWE fans, should Cena turn heel or is he fine being the hero? Tell us what you think in the comments below...
