Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini was at a loss to explain last night's 2-1 defeat to CSKA Moscow that has left his side's Champions League hopes hanging by a thread.

A first-half brace from Seydou Doumbia condemned the Citizens to a surprise loss at the Etihad Stadium, and the Chilean's misery was compounded by red cards to Yaya Toure an Fernandinho after the interval.
