Graeme McDowell takes early lead at WGC-HSBC Championship in Shanghai

Graeme McDowell has a two stroke lead after the first round at the WGC-HSBC Champions in Shanghai. The Northen Irishman posted five birdies on the back nine to card a 67. The chasing pack at three under features six players including Rickie Fowler and Martin Kaymer.

George O'Grady has announced he will be standing down from his role as European Tour Chief Executive. O'Grady who took over the reins in 2005 has asked the board of directors to begin a search for his successor. He will remain in the role until his replacement is appointed.

And finally, Oliver Wilson has been named European Tour's player of the month for October. It completes a remarkable turn of fortunes for Wilson who was ranked 786th in the world before winning the Alfred Dunhill Links Championships at St Andrews.
