A new contender for the most bizarre penalty of all time has emerged. Step forward, Maciek Adamiak.
This wasn’t your typical terrible miss, however. This spot-kick was nothing short of genius from a player destined to become an internet phenomenon thanks to his wonderful piece of improvisation and, more importantly, execution of the shot.
Penalty takers often try to deceive the opposing goalkeeper by ‘giving them the eyes’, but Adamiak went one better - he performed a full-on dummy during the shoot-out in a recent match in Poland to score what must go down as one of the most remarkable penalties ever converted.
Genius from Adamiak
Adamiak shaped to shoot with his right foot, but as the goalkeeper dived to his right he watched in horror to see the ball fly past him on his opposite side.
He and the crowd must have wondered how it had happened, but the slow-motion replay revealed all. Rather than hitting it with the outside of his right foot, Adamiak had in fact struck the ball with his left foot first.

His swinging right leg was merely an attempt to deceive the goalkeeper - and it worked to perfection.
Watch: Adamiak's penalty
So, where did Adamiak learn this incredible skill? Well, while this might be the first time that most of us have seen a penalty taken in this manner, similar spot-kicks have been scored in the past.
Perhaps the most famous of which was Ezequiel Calvente’s ingenious penalty scored while playing the Spain’s Under-19 side against Italy at the 2010 European Championships.
And although not a penalty, former Arsenal and France star Thierry Henry has previously enjoyed producing similar ‘fake’ passes during matches. He would shape to cross the ball or shoot with his right foot, before deliberately missing the ball and passing - without looking - to a teammate with his left.
One thing’s certain: Sunday League player up and down the country will be trying the replicate Adamiak’s penalty this weekend.
