Manchester United spent big in the summer, signing established talent and young, upcoming future stars. However, they have an ageing front line - there is some serious quality within that attack - but Louis van Gaal desperately needs to invest in a younger talent to add some youth and future to the side.

Robin van Persie, Wayne Rooney and summer loan signing Radamel Falcao all have an immense amount of ability. These players are some of the best in the world, but all have one problem; age. None of the aforementioned players are under the age of 28 and as talented as they are, their quality will start to decline in coming years. Van Persie is 31-years-old and even though he is a lethal finisher; you feel his time is almost up at the top level.

Ageing

Many people are sure Falcao is staying at Old Trafford for the long-term and if this is true, the 28-year-old doesn't exactly decrease that average age of the attack. Rooney is the same age as the Colombian striker, however, Rooney can drop deeper as he gets older and fall perfectly into that attacking midfielder role, pulling the strings for team behind the striker as he does so often already. Nonetheless, the Englishman needs some fresh young talent ahead of him on the pitch.

To be honest, there aren't a lot of possible signings for The Red Devils in terms of a traditional striker. With Diego Costa moving to Chelsea and Robert Lewandoski to Bayern Munich, the world-class centre-forwards won't be up for sale any time soon. However, if we look passed the top quality players and search for the promising young stars that could develop into behemoths of the game, options open up.

Options

Barcelona youngster Munir looks set to reach awesome levels and if the Spanish giants were willing to sell, Manchester United could snatch him. Saido Berahino could also be a potential signing for The Red Devils, his performances for West Brom has earned him a place in the England squad and has surely caught the attention of many clubs. The 21-year-old would be a more likely signing than Munir and Berahino has already proved he can perform in the Premier League. With higher quality players behind the youngster, he could certainly develop into a world-class player.

Saying this, United already have a promising star in their ranks, James Wilson is highly rated by everyone at Old Trafford and the 18-year-old is rumoured to be a fantastic young talent, he is already giving the manager something to think about and you just sense the youngster will make a breakthrough in the squad.

Return

The Red Devils also have Javier Hernandez to return from his loan spell at Real Madrid, so he will also give the attack a bit more youth. However, the decision to let Danny Welbeck go could come back to bite Van Gaal; the Englishman had moments of brilliance at Manchester United and could develop into a brilliant striker at Arsenal.

United fans will hope Van Gaal can find a gem wherever that player is in the world, but scouting and developing a star into a top talent, isn't the easiest job in the world.
