AS Monaco are already looking for alternative clubs to sell Radamel Falcao to after Manchester United stalled on their option to make the loan move permanent, reports The Express.

Falcao made the temporary switch to Old Trafford in the summer after Louis van Gaal agreed to pay his £285,000-a-week wages in full. The Red Devils were also given the option to make the deal permanent at any time during the loan for £46 million.

However, Van Gaal has already admitted that, currently, Falcao has not done enough to convince him to part with such a large amount of cash. Responding to that, Monaco have now gone looking for a potential buyer elsewhere.

Alternative options

Their first port of call will be Real Madrid, who were strongly linked with a move for the Colombian in the summer transfer window. Juventus are also believed to be interested, but there is some doubt as to whether the Italian champions could meet their asking price.

Despite Falcao's questionable form, Monaco will still look for at least £40 million for his transfer. The 28-year-old will have to improve his form dramatically if he is to convince other clubs to buy him.

Recurring knee problems

And he is certainly going the wrong way about it at the moment. Having sustained a serious knee injury in January of this year, it was expected that his absence at the World Cup would allow him to regain him full fitness.

But there are now reports that Falcao, who has missed Manchester United's last two games through injury, is having to ice his knee after every training session. If true, it suggests his knee is far from fully recovered from the injury.

What is becoming clear is that Van Gaal has not been impressed with Falcao. Regardless of his transfer budget, which is believed to be bigger than big, Van Gaal looks set to pass on the option to sign him.

If Manchester United reject him, what chance do Monaco have of selling him to Real Madrid for £40 million?
