Both sides of north London are struggling for form this season, but while Mauricio Pochettino's men are struggling to score goals, Arsene Wenger's can't stop conceding them.
With Nacho Monreal struggling to fill in for the injured Laurent Koscielny, the Gunners are keen to reinforce their defence in the January transfer window. With Chiriches looking to leave, Wenger is believed to have placed the defender on his short list.
Out of favour
The Romanian has fallen out of favour under new boss Pochettino and has only made three appearances for Spurs all season. Youness Kaboul, Jan Vertonghen and Federico Fazio have pushed Chiriches to the fourth-choice centre-back at White Hart Lane.
It is a strange turn of events for the 24-year-old, who had an impressive debut season after joining from Steaua Bucuresti last summer. The deal cost Tottenham a reported €9.5 million and he went on to start 16 Premier League games.

Arsenal's defensive options
His situation is unlikely to improve if he moves to the Emirates where Per Mertesacker and Koscielny reign supreme when fit. Calum Chambers would also fill in as a reserve centre-back, leaving Chiriches in a familiar fourth-choice role.
But Arsenal would still represent a step up where the chance to play alongside Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil would be tempting. They also have a greater chance of qualifying for the Champions League.
Hummels too expensive
Wenger was rumoured to be lining up a bid for Borussia Dortmund captain Mats Hummels. However, Jurgen Klopp is not keen on selling his star defender and is reportedly holding out for as much as £32 million.
Arsenal have given Wenger £20 million to spend in January and the Frenchman could also be on the lookout for a defensive midfielder. Coming from an arch rival, Chiriches would certainly come at a premium, but would be significantly cheaper than Hummels.
