Two-Time Masters Champion, Bubba Watson, claimed his first World Golf Championship this weekend at the HSBC Champions event in Shanghai. The American took Tim Clark to extra holes after chipping in for eagle from a greenside bunker at hole. Watson then drained a 20 foot birdie putt in the playoff to win his first the 72nd tournament outside of America at the 10th edition of the WGC HSBC Champions.
Meanwhile, rookie Nick Taylor secured a 2 shot victory at the Sanderson Farms Championship. The Canadian was only making his 13th PGA Tour start but looked unfazed as he closed in on his first ever win on the Tour at the Country Club of Jackson.
Over on the LPGA Tour, it was Mi-Hyang Lee who won her maiden LPGA Title at the Mizuno Classic in Japan. The 21 year old birdied the fifth extra hole in a nervy play-off with fellow South-Korean IL-Hee Lee, and home favourite Kotona Kozuma. Britain’s Laura Davies came close to becoming the oldest winner in the history of the tour, but couldn’t quite hold on to her joint overnight lead. She missed out on the playoff, finishing just one shot behind the leading trio.
And finally, Adam Scott has called on Australian Open organisers to pair him against Rory McIlroy for the opening rounds at the Australian Club in Sydney. Scott hopes to take his revenge after McIlroy prevented him from completing the Aussie Slam at the end of 2013.
