The 32-year-old is currently a free agent having left Barcelona in the summer and has been training with Manchester United in recent weeks. He is still regaining his fitness following a serious knee injury but has impressed Louis van Gaal during his time at Carrington.
Valdes' injury was enough to convince AS Monaco to cancel a pre-contract, but it is widely believed that Manchester United are preparing to offer him a short-term contract. The Red Devils are preparing to sell Anders Lindegaard in January and Van Gaal wants Valdes to be the club's second choice goalkeeper behind David de Gea.

Mata drops a hint
However, Mata has hinted that Manchester United are still waiting for Valdes to make a final decision on his future. There are some reports suggesting that he would prefer to join a club as a first choice and may refuse a contract offer from the Old Trafford boardrooms.
But considering Manchester United are pretty generous paymasters, with the likes of Mata earning £140,000-a-week, any deal would be hard to resist.

Ready to return
Valdes himself hinted that he is closing in a full return to fitness yesterday, confirming on Twitter that he was 'almost ready' to make a comeback. It may also suggest that he will agree a deal with a club as soon as he is ready to play.
He tweeted: "Great training session Today. Almost Ready!
"Thanks for your supportive messages throughout these months. They have helped me a lot!"
Valdes has been out since March with a cruciate knee injury and has been linked with a move to Arsenal and Liverpool in the past.
