Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink in the mix to take charge of Burton Albion

Ex-Chelsea striker and Holland legend Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has been strongly linked with the vacant manager's role at Burton Albion, following Gary Rowett’s recent move to Birmingham City.

The Dutchman isn’t the only front-runner in the race for the job though, with former Middlesbrough boss Tony Mowbray also in the running for the position for the League Two promotion hopefuls.

A report that was revealed only yesterday outlined how black coaches and managers are not getting the top jobs in football.

One Of Only A Few

If Hasselbaink were to get the nod over Mowbray and take charge at the Pirelli Stadium, then he would be only the third black manager within the Football League set up.

Chris Powell of Championship side Huddersfield Town and Keith Curle of League Two Carlisle United are the only others.

Higher Ambitions?

Mowbray, who has been unemployed for more than a year now, has said he looks unlikely to drop to League Two, despite being tipped one of the favourites for the job by the bookies.

The 50 year old said: “I have watched a lot of the Championship as I look to get back in the frame, but there are a lot of good experienced managers in the frame.”

Expect a new man in place this weekend

The Brewers chairman, Ben Robinson, is hopeful that a decision for the job will be reached by the end of the week.

Speaking to the Derby Telegraph, he said: “We are just concluding the interview process. “There is some business still to be done and situations to be resolved. We hope to make an announcement by the end of the week.”

Other candidates for the job include ex Nottingham Forest manager Colin Calderwood, who was pictured leaving the Brewers stadium last week and former Doncaster Rovers manager Sean O’Driscoll.

Burton are going well in League Two, currently in fifth place. They trail the league leaders Wycombe Wanders by three points at this stage of the season.
