Manchester United and Arsenal boosted in Ron Vlaar chase

Published 2 Comments

Manchester United and Arsenal have been boosted in their pursuit of Aston Villa captain Ron Vlaar after the player's agent revealed that his client is very ambitious, reports the Mirror.

In fact, Arnold Oosterveer has made reference to both Manchester United and Arsenal, as rumours regarding his client's long term future continue to develop.

On the move?

Vlaar is out of contract at Villa Park at the end of the season, but it remains to be seen as to whether he will look to move on in the January transfer window.

His agent has certainly hinted that a future move is possible, as he told reporters: “It is obvious that for Ron, now is the moment to make a nice big move in his career. Ron is very ambitious.

"The situation is ideal for Ron right now. You can imagine that we are not in a hurry. I don’t want to react to the rumour that he will move to either Arsenal or Man United, but Ron is very ambitious.”

Van Gaal link

It's certainly not surprising that Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has been credited with interest in the Dutchman's services after the player served him so well at this summer's World Cup.

Vlaar played an instrumental role in helping the Dutch national side secure a third placed finish in Brazil as Van Gaal put his faith in him.  And with Manchester United struggling in the defensive department, it appears that a move to Old Trafford in 2015 could be a possibility for Vlaar.

The likes of Phil Jones, Chris Smalling, Jonny Evans and Co. have all failed to maintain their fitness and prove their credentials so far, whilst Vlaar could add experience to the club's back-line.

Arsenal in need

Arsenal, on the other hand, are also struggling in the defensive department, with the club shipping in a number of goals. After selling former captain Thomas Vermaelen to Barcelona, Arsene Wenger's side have a lacked cover in the centre of defence.

Teenager Calum Chambers has stepped in for the Gunners on occasions, but Vlaar would give the side a strong presence at the back.

In fact, Manchester United and Arsenal go head-to-head at the Emirates in the next round of Premier League fixtures on November 22.
