Everton will only sell Ross Barkley if they receive a British record £60 million fee, reports the Express.

Barkley, who is just 20-years-old, is recognised as one of the finest talents in English football, and only recently signed a new four-year deal with the Merseyside outfit.

Huge fee

The youngster looks set to star for Roy Hodgson's England squad tomorrow evening, as the Three Lions play host to Slovenia at Wembley.

It appears, however, that the Goodison Park hierarchy are open to selling their prized asset, but will require an astronomical fee for his services. Barkley's certainly not sure of admirers, however, with a number of the Premier League's elite clubs seemingly monitoring his progress.

In fact, the same report has linked as many as four clubs with the England international, with the likes of Manchester City, Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool all chasing him.

Who needs him?

Manchester United only recently broke the British transfer record as they splashed out as much as £59.7m on Argentine superstar Angel di Maria, so it remains to be seen as to whether they'd be willing to spend such a sum once again.

Under Louis van Gaal, however, the Manchester United hierarchy certainly seem to be prepared to spend, and the Red Devils are in need of a top class addition in the middle of the park, despite signing the duo of Daley Blind and Ander Herrera in the last transfer window.

Chelsea, on the other hand, already have an array of talent in the middle of the park, with the likes of Cesc Fabregas, Ramires and Cesc Fabregas starring for the Stamford Bridge outfit. Jose Mourinho, however, seems intent on proving his credentials at the club for the long term, and Barkley may prove the ideal signing for the club.

Liverpool, of course, are on the lookout for a long term Steven Gerrard successor, but a move to Anfield for Barkley would no doubt cause great controversy, whilst Manchester City may well be ready to replace Yaya Toure in the near future.
