Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera could be moved on in January, despite only signing for the Red Devils this summer, if reports in the Daily Express are to be believed.
The British publication, citing reports from the continent, are claiming that the Spaniard might be moved on in order to free up space and funds for Louis van Gaal to move for three top targets; namely Kevin Strootman, Arturo Vidal and Sami Khedira.
It’s thought that the Dutchman wants to radically improve his midfield, and though the chances of him landing all three players together are slim to none, he may be able to lure one to Old Trafford if he has an open cheque book to play with.
That does spell bad news for Herrera though, who has struggled to break into the United team in recent matches after experiencing a layoff through injury. A bright start followed his £28.5 million move from Athletic Bilbao in the summer, but since the end of September, where he picked up a knock during the 2-1 win over West Ham, he’s only managed 45 minutes of game-time.
Is a move possible?
Though it will be information that’s virtually impossible to digest, and then subsequently believe, for United fans, the one element that could make an unlikely exit for Herrera, whose contract sees him earn £90,000-a-week, slightly more feasible is the the club’s desperation for success.

Van Gaal spent £150 million in the summer and yet his side have looked someway off the pace being maintained by those aiming for Champions League sports.
January transfer business
A knock-on effect of their drab start looks sure to be highlighted in the January transfer window, with Van Gaal once more expected to spend big in order to add more superstars to his ranks. On that front there’s little argument to be had, and the aforementioned trio of Strootman, Vidal and Khedira certainly fall into the ‘top-class’ category.
Strootman is a player known by Van Gaal from the latter’s time in charge of the Netherlands, whilst Vidal finds himself being chased by half of Europe. Khedira meanwhile is set to see his contract expire next summer, meaning that he could be available for a cut-price fee in January if Carlo Ancelotti decides he wants to be rid of him.
