Chelsea have confirmed on their official website that defender Todd Kane has joined League One outfit Bristol City on loan.

Kane, who is a member of the Blues' Under-21 squad, has joined Steve Cotterill's side until January 18 after previously spending time at Blackburn Rovers.

Having been apart of the Chelsea setup since Under-8 level, Kane has enjoyed a fine rise up the ranks at Stamford Bridge, and will be desperate to make an impression on the first-team over the coming years.

First team chances

Blues boss Jose Mourinho, though, has clearly decided that it will be best for the player to continue to gain experience of regular first team football, and he will now be hoping that Kane impresses over the next two months.

A right-back by trade, Kane looks set to play a key role for City as they look to gain promotion to the Championship this season.

Fantastic options

It's not surprising that Chelsea have handed Kane permission to go out on loan for the short term as they already have an array of talent in the right-back department.

Serbian international Branislav Ivanovic has been a consistent figure at the back for some time now, whilst Spanish international Cesar Azpilicueta can also play in the role for the Stamford Bridge outfit.

It remains to be seen as to whether Kane ever stars on the first team stage for the Blues, but the loan spell at Bristol City certainly won't do his career progression any harm.
