Manuel Neuer is a goalkeeper playing at the top of his game right now.
The recent Champions League game against AS Roma showcased the skills of the extremely talented Germany international who made numerous diving saves.
During the course of the match which included a tremendous double save reminiscent of Manchester United legend, Peter Schmeichel, to deny the Italian Serie A side a good goal which could have potentially altered the course of the match.
Neuer is currently the unrivalled best goalkeeper on the planet and, quite possibly, the best player in world football right now; but yet he is not being considered a strong challenger for Cristiano Ronaldo’s FIFA Ballon d’Or prize which is looking increasingly likely to once again be going home with the Real Madrid international superstar.
I am not arguing that Ronaldo is undeserving of the prestigious award because he truly deserves it after having such a dominating season last year and maintaining (and surpassing) that form so far this season.
- Manuel Neuer produces sensational flick pass against Frankfurt
- Manuel Neuer excited to return to Germany squad
- Manuel Neuer named German Footballer of the Year
However, with the Ballon d'Or seemingly jumping backwards and forwards between Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, the award may lose some of its credibility.
This is why I believe it is time for a change and no one else in world football right now is more deserving of the award than Manuel Neuer.
