With arguably the best full backs in the league, the most promising midfield talent in Ross Barkley, one of the most in-form and consistent goalkeepers in Tim Howard and front man Romelu Lukaku, you would think that a team of this quality would be pushing for a higher place in the premier league table.
However, they haven’t had the dream start they have been looking for as they currently sit 10th place with their star striker surprisingly lacking form. What Everton may be lacking in the premier league they seem to be making up for in the Europa League.
The key players in Roberto Martinez’s side, which include Howard and Phil Jagielka, have remained consistent throughout the majority of the season, including the games they have played in Europe.
Former USA number one Howard has proved time and time again that he has what it takes to be one of the world’s best in his position. Players like Brad Guzan at Aston Villa were being kept out of the international side, but Howard decided to postponed his international career for now in order to fully focus and commit himself to Everton.
Jagielka on the other hand has remained in contention for the national side and is still performing to a very high standard, not to mention his wonder goal against Liverpool a few weeks ago.

There have been reports suggesting that wonderkid Ross Barkley is being eyed up by rivals Manchester City for a fee thought to be in the region of around £50million – Everton will have to do their best to ensure they keep him if they want to progress and continue moving forward.
In addition, Everton arguably nabbed themselves the signing of the summer in Lukaku, reportedly paying Chelsea £28million for him to put pen to paper on a five-year deal, which would see him acquire the No.10 jersey – a high honour at such a young age.
So with all this undeniable talent in the side, the question is why aren’t they doing better?
Personally, I think it’s only a matter of time before they start to turn up the heat and rack up the points – however they need to find their form fast if they want to catch up the teams at the top end of the table including West Ham, Southampton and Swansea.
Let’s not forget the great blend they have with the likes of Eto’o in the side helping to guide the up young and emerging Lukaku and Barkley. It’s only a matter of time before the stars align for Martinez’s side and they blossom into the team they are capable of.
