WWE.com editors are back, and this time they have been predicting who they believe is the future of the WWE - a debate which has grown stronger since the rebranding of NXT and an influx of independent talent signing with the company.
A lot of their predictions have managed to come to fruition even though the editors aren’t really ‘in the know’ when it comes to storylines – such as predicting Seth Rollins will become a future main event star in the WWE which is exactly where he is now as Mr. Money in the Bank.
There some obvious picks in there with the likes of Dean Ambrose and Roman Reigns; whilst they have also include some veterans and experienced stars with the likes of Dolph Ziggler and Cesaro.
But they have also included some more picks which aren’t as obvious but do stake a claim in being the future of the WWE at some point in their careers.
An interesting choice to start with from Joey Styles but some valid points on why Harper can be the future and it can start right now. The big question everyone will raise up is his age but I doubt that should be a huge issue as long as he is given the right push.
- Mick Foley would accept offer to be WWE General Manager again
- Fandango drops hint about WWE return
- Chris Jericho calls Dean Ambrose the next big thing in WWE
Right now he’s joining Team Authority and a safe bet right now would be that he will become Intercontinental Champion in the near future. He is strong, he is very agile and very quick for a man of his size and if the push is there then Harper can be one of the more dominant monsters in the next few years.
I agree with Mike Murphy when he says Sami Zayn is the future of the WWE; I am a huge Sami Zayn fan because he’s likeable, entertaining and he can actually work inside a ring. In NXT he’s proven he can carry a show with other hard workers and very soon he will be the NXT Champion.
He is ready for the main roster, but leaving NXT will be a huge loss for the developmental territory. Murphy suggests Zayn has the potential to go on and main event WrestleMania; it’s too soon to say but he does have the ability to do just that.
The only diva in the list which will prompt fans to ask where Paige is. Paige isn’t included even though she will the number one diva in the business and is already on her way to doing that. But Charlotte brings something totally different to the ring, she has a famous father but that won’t fast-track her to the top because she can work, she has a unique style, she can talk on the microphone.
She can make the fans hate her one week and love her the next and is a reliable champion who performs well every time she is in the ring, she’s definitely going to be a top diva on the main roster very soon.
A new addition to the NXT roster who finally made his in-ring debut last week. Finn Balor may be new to a lot of the WWE fans but it seems like the Irish star has been around forever, entertaining on the independent scene. He seemed very comfortable in the ring and was very confident and we know the best is yet to come for Finn Balor. The head of the Bullet Club will prove to be a huge hit on the main roster just like he already is on NXT.
“Bálor can morph from underdog highflier to arrogant jerk with ease. And, like Rollins, he’ll have the same mass appeal as Jeff Hardy without any of his unfortunate faults.” – Ryan Murphy
A lot of WWE superstars who have made it in the business look up to Itami and what he has achieved in Japan, so it’s safe to say the man knows what he is doing inside a wrestling ring and the only thing holding him back from a main roster jump right now is the language barrier. He is improving week by week on his microphone skills but his body language already seems like he is more than comfortable at this stage. There’s no denying he’s one of the greatest wrestlers on the planet, and he will translate all his skills from the NXT ring to a pay-per-view very soon.
A brilliant choice picked by Bobby Melok and even though Corbin hasn’t really been tested on the big stage on NXT; he is still proving to be an entertaining hit with the fans and destroys everything standing in his way. He has a perfect look, an imposing figure who could dominate any superstar on the main roster on his day.
He does need work yet and a quick push could do him more damage than benefits. Nevertheless based on what we have seen so far, Melok is right when he says Baron Corbin is heading for the top of the WWE.
