Manchester United fans could be forgiven for growing excited by Victor Valdes' latest tweet, after the Spanish goalkeeper posted a rather suggestive message that indicates he could be on the verge of signing terms at Old Trafford.
The 32-year-old has knowingly been training with the Red Devils for the past few weeks, after Louis van Gaal offered Valdes the opportunity to continue his rehabilitation with the club after suffering a cruciate knee ligament injury last season.
He was first spotted by Manchester United fans taking in the 1-1 draw with Chelsea at the end of October, and has continued to work on his strength and condition at Carrington with a view to making a playing comeback early next year.
Initially it wasn't thought that Valdes would be offered a permanent contract by Van Gaal, but the recent injury to David De Gea has prompted speculation the Red Devils could hand the former Barcelona man a deal until the end of the season.
The Dutch coach does have Anders Lindegaard in reserve - and he might be recalled to the starting XI for next Saturday's Premier League clash against Arsenal - but Valdes might be a more favourable option to fill in for De Gea in the future.
The Spaniard still needs to prove his fitness having been out of the game since March, but his most recent post on social media hints that he's stepped up the next phase of his recovery.
News of Valdes' alleged progress couldn't come at a better time following news of De Gea's dislocated finger injury he suffered while on international duty with Vicente del Bosque's squad last week.
The 22-year-old - who has been by far and away Manchester United's best player in 2014/15 so far - was left out of the team that beat Belarus 3-0 in a Euro 2016 qualifier on Saturday, allowing him to fly back to Manchester to undergo further tests with the Red Devils medical team.
No announcement is expected to be made regarding Valdes' future in the next few days, but the timing of his latest post seems to be a little too impeccable to be put down as sheer coincidence.
If Van Gaal does opt to hand Valdes a contract then Manchester United fans will be confident in the knowledge that they've signed up another experienced, world-class keeper after all those years playing at Camp Nou, although there will inevitably be some doubts surrounding his fitness following his horrible injury.
