Manchester United midfielder Darren Fletcher could decide to leave Old Trafford in January after falling down the pecking order at the club, reports the Daily Mail.
The Scottish international, who is in contention to face England this evening, was handed the role as United's vice captain in pre-season, but he's struggled for opportunities under Louis van Gaal of late.
In fact, after featuring in the side's opening three fixtures of the season, Fletcher has only made two appearances for the club since, despite the ever growing injury problems at the Theatre of Dreams.
Out of contract
It's expected, then, with Fletcher out of contract at the club at the end of the season, that he will move on in 2015. It remains to be seen, however, as to whether he will look for a new club in the upcoming January transfer window or whether he will wait until the summer to move on.
Fletcher, of course, has come through incredible challenges in order to get his career back on track after recovering from a bowel condition that threatened to end his stint at the Old Trafford outfit.
Despite a lack of opportunities of late, Fletcher may well be handed an outing as the Red Devils travel to north London to take on rivals Arsenal on Saturday.
With Manchester United's injury list growing by the day, boss Louis van Gaal is now without as many as 10 first-team players ahead of the Emirates showdown, with the midfield duo of Michael Carrick and Daley Blind on the sidelines.
Fletcher, then, may well be competing with Spaniard Ander Herrera and Marouane Fellaini for a place in the side against Arsene Wenger's team. And if the Scotsman does start, then he will be desperate to make an impression on the side after a disappointing spell.
Fans of the Red Devils will certainly be hoping that Fletcher finds his best form again in the red shirt, but his days at Old Trafford now appear to be numbered.
