Argentina vs Portugal

International friendly
Old Trafford
Tuesday, November 18. Kick-off: 1945

Preview

El Clasico comes to Manchester on Tuesday night as Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo lead Argentina and Portugal out at Old Trafford for this eagerly-awaited friendly encounter.

This will be just the second time Ronaldo has played at his former home since leaving Manchester United for Real Madrid in a world record deal over five years ago, and he is likely to receive a hero’s welcome.

The last time Ronaldo was back at the club he scored a goal that resulted in Manchester United being eliminated from the Champions League - a game that transpired to be Sir Alex Ferguson’s last in the competition.

But there will be no such split loyalty on this occasion for Manchester United supporters, and Ronaldo will be able to count on the support of the majority of those in attendance.

There will, however, be plenty of support for Argentina, or at least for one player in particular. Angel di Maria, Manchester United’s new No.7, will feature for La Albiceleste on his new home patch.

The teams

Argentina XI

Romero; Roncaglia, Otamendi, Demichelis, Ansaldi; Biglia, Mascherano, Pastore; Di Maria, Higuain, Messi.

Portugal XI

Rui Patricio; Cedric, B.Alves, Pepe, Guerreiro; Moutinho, Carvalho, Tiago; Nani, Danny, Ronaldo.
