The last thing Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal needed before the trip to Arsenal at the weekend was another addition to the club's treatment room, so he will be fuming that one of his key stars might have been crocked - by his own player.
Portugal faced off against Argentina at Old Trafford on Tuesday night in a friendly match and any Manchester United fans in attendance will have been dragged out of being mesmerised at the sight of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi when Angel di Maria crumpled to the floor.
Reds Exasperated At Injury
Groans were understandably forthcoming, but cursing of rotten luck may have turned to full blown anger when the realisation dawned that it was Nani that had delivered the telling blow. He may be on loan at Sporting Lisbon but he is still a Manchester United player.
With injuries such a big problem at Old Trafford at the moment, there is some humour in the fact that even the club's players are injuring one another now. Disappointing Night Overall
It was a turgid contest at Old Trafford and nobody was surprised when the final few minutes arrived with it heading to a 0-0 draw. However, a late header from Lorient's Raphael Guerreiro handed the Portuguese a winner, though it did little to raise spirits in the crowd.
Cristiano Ronaldo vs Lionel Messi was the billing before the match to try and get people to pay substantial sums to attend, but the campaign failed to attract much interest and the stunt was over after only 45 minutes, as both superstars were substituted at half-time.
