It is no secret that long standing Patriots head coach Bill Belichick likes to run a tight ship over in New England, the long list of players that have crossed him in the past is enough to prove that.
That list got a little bit longer on Friday with news that one Patriots star had been punished by the franchise after failing to arrive at the Pats' practice facility on time.
Coming off the back of a hugely impressive win over the Indianapolis Colts in Week 11 you may think the franchise hierarchy would be willing to cut their roster some slack, but Belichick hasn't led the Patriots to three Super Bowls by being nice.
Taking his time
As reported by The Providence Journal, newly anointed star running back Jonas Gray failed to arrive in time for the Patriots' Friday workday. Rather than being allowed to suit up and catch up for lost time though New England opted to teach the player a lesson by keeping him out of the session altogether.
Fresh off the back of a career performance which included 201 rushing yards and four touchdowns Gray has been the talk of the franchise this past week. The team's reaction to his tardiness here however shows that no matter your position in the roster a failure to play by the rules will not be tolerated in New England.

Mike Reiss of ESPN added further detail to the story Friday afternoon, reporting that Gray had blamed his phone battery dying as the reason why he missed his usual alarm.
Some fans haven't taken too kindly to that excuse however with some suggesting solutions to Gray's time keeping problem should include a personal wake up service from the team, or simply buying himself an alarm clock as a christmas gift.
Gray isn't the first Patriots player to be sent home from practice this season for tardiness. Veteran cornerback Darrelle Revis was barred from joining in with his teammates during an October session after oversleeping.
Initial reports had suggested that Gray had missed practice due to an injury so at least Patriots fans can rest easy knowing that the RB won't miss any extended time away from the gridiron.
Nevertheless we wouldn't put it past Belichick to limit Gray's touches on Sunday in order to ram the message home, especially considering this week's surprise addition of LeGarrette Blount.
