The Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania will be playing host to the annual Royal Rumble event in just under two months, and one of the most exciting pay-per-views on the WWE calendar is expected to have many surprises lined up in January 2015.
The Royal Rumble pay-per-view is always a great event to watch as fans are always treated to great matches as the Road to WrestleMania begins, whilst the Rumble match itself brings a sense of excitement and unpredictability.
Obviously there are times when the winner of the Royal Rumble match is clear and it isn’t really much of a surprise, such as Dave Batista winning the Rumble last year whilst Roman Reigns is expected to go one better than his performance this year by winning the 2015 Royal Rumble.
But just like every year the WWE have surprised lined up to appear at the event in Philadelphia. The Royal Rumble was originally advertised to have a 40-man main event but it looks as if the WWE is sticking to the traditional 30-man Royal Rumble main event.
There will be plenty of WWE superstars fighting for a spot in the Rumble and if the WWE has its way then even fewer spots will be available for them with a number of surprise entrants set to appear in the match.
PWInsider have taken a closer look at potential surprise entrants into the Rumble and the fact that the WWE are already in talks with certain ECW alumni who could be brought in as surprise entrants.
The most obvious name is Rob Van Dam who could start his next stint with the WWE at the Royal Rumble, the workload won’t be as high for him and he should receive a great reaction as well. The second name being reported is Tommy Dreamer who has been working for TNA as of late and has used TNA stars for his House of Hardcore promotion so it remains to be seen whether the WWE can negotiate a deal with Dreamer.

SHOCK RETURN ON THE CARDS
Rob Van Dam and Tommy Dreamer aren’t the only stars linked with a Royal Rumble return though, for months now a tag team has been rumoured to be making a return to the business and the Royal Rumble event could be the perfect setting for the duo to do so.
If we believe speculation then The Dudley Boyz could also be on our screens come January after they finished up with TNA and have been away from the WWE for almost a decade, taking their career to new heights as singles superstars.
A return at the Rumble would be perfect, not only because it’s the Royal Rumble pay-per-view but because Philadelphia is the city that brought us ECW and ECW fans would react for the superstars.
Regardless of who competed in the Royal Rumble match the likelihood is that Roman Reigns will be heading to the main event of WrestleMania by outlasting 29 other superstars; that is unless the WWE pull a huge swerve and genuinely shock the audience.
Chris Jericho is also expected at the event and he could also be a part of the Royal Rumble and not a singles match, whether he sticks around for WrestleMania remains to be seen.
Another match which is being rumoured for the event could see Triple H lace his boots against where he could be taking on The Big Guy, Ryback.
The WWE World Heavyweight Championship should also be defended on the night and could even change hands if the WWE don’t stick to the original plan, Brock Lesnar and John Cena will go at it one more time.
