The England international was substituted midway through the second half of Saturday's 2-1 defeat against Manchester United, following a crunching tackle from Red Devils defender Paddy McNair.
Wilshere is set to miss the Gunners' midweek clash against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League, with rumours Arsene Wenger could be without the injury-plagued star for six to eight weeks.
The news will come as a bitter blow to Arsenal fans already disillusioned by their side's disappointing start to the season - with the 17 points recorded from 12 games representing their worst haul in 32 years.
Wilshere's recent return to form has been one of very few positives, but now that the £90,000-a-week star has suffered another setback, things are going from bad to worse at the Emirates.
