WWE Superstar Sheamus has often been seen as a vocal character within the industry and his recent Twitter exchange with UFC fighter Conor McGregor proved just that.
Sheamus' fellow Irishman is just as big, if not bigger, to UFC as the Celtic Warrior is to WWE. With this in mind, McGregor was recently asked who would win should they ever meet in a cage, responding with:
In a question and answer session with Fox Sports the featherweight star fired a warning to Seamus, insisting: "I would whoop his ass. It would be no contest."
Understandably, Sheamus was not going to take the UFC star's comments likely, and took to Twitter to express his opinion:
Having taken a dig at McGregor's size, the Dubliner had clearly started a war of words, but whether it was meant in a light-hearted manner or not, both men were keen to come out on top:
“@WWESheamus, @BrockLesnar fought PURE, phoney. Me and Brock Vs You and any shmuck of your choice. #CelticPhoney #TagTeam @JRsBBQ @WWE @UFC.” was McGregor's response, with UFC and WWE champion Brock Lesnar now being brought into the exchange.

To this, Sheamus has a humorous reply that put MMA's rising star well and truly back in his place.
Which clearly rubbed 26-year-old McGregor up the wrong way:
“@WWESheamus @BrockLesnar @WWE @ufc Careful now scaldy, you will wake up with no teeth and your nose on my mantle. #CelticPhoney #NeverFought.”
Friends at heart?
The two giant names of sport did however settle down eventually, and even spoke of a potential meeting over some whiskey in Dublin at Christmas time, for what Sheamus called a 'traditional Irish Christmas.'
The conversation both men had was entertaining for the well-over a million Twitter followers they have combined. Even if it was just the two Irishmen having a laugh, they were still certainly out to prove themselves as well as their sporting capability to one another.
The relationship which WWE has with UFC and its stars is a interesting one. With the most popular name across both sporting fields undeniably being WWE World Heavyweight Brock Lesnar, who it has been reported may well be making a return to UFC sometime in the near future.
