There was speculation that Randy Orton would make his long-awaited return to the WWE ring at this past weekend's PPV Survivor Series with reports suggesting that the Superstar was all set to go backstage in St. Louis before Vince McMahon pulled the plug.
And it now looks like the WWE Universe will have to wait even longer to see one of the roster's biggest names fighting once more after reports revealed that the WWE have not scheduled Randy Orton to appear at any events until early 2015.
WrestlingInc explained the situation:
"Randy Orton is not currently scheduled for any WWE events until the WWE Holiday Tour kicks off after Christmas."
Orton has been out of action in the WWE since November 3rd when he suffered what appeared to be a scripted injury in a match up against The Authority.
This was to allow Orton to focus on his career outside of the ring with filming commitments for WWE Studio's 'Condemned 2: Desert Pray' slated for November.
- Randy Orton's WWE return delayed because of Sting
- Three huge matches rumored for WrestleMania 31
- WWE confirm rumored Randy Orton update
Many had assumed, and indeed hoped, that Orton would be back in the ring before the New Year however and this latest update is certainly a set back for both the WWE and it's fans.
With Orton having been prepared and waiting to make his return at Survivor Series it looks like either the WWE are waiting for a similarly big event in which to mark Orton's return, or the wrestler's filming commitments have become more extensive than first hoped.
Holiday Tour return
The WWE's annual Holiday Tour kicks off at Madison Square Garden on Friday 26th December and fans will have the chance to see Orton take on one of the organization's veterans as he faces Kane.
And fans may see a different Orton to the one who has dominated arenas in the recent past.
It is widely expected that the Superstar will have performed a full face turn when he makes his bow in New York with a baby face character having been in the works for some time now.
