West Brom have managed a respectable start to the new campaign with thirteen points out of twelve games. Sitting mid-table in 13th, the Baggies owe a large amount of their achievements to striker Saido Berahino.
The 21-year-old has managed an impressive return of seven goals already this season and with the hectic festive period coming up, Alan Irvine will be hoping his star performer can continue his run of form.
Having suffered 2-0 defeats at the hands of Newcastle United and Chelsea recently, West Brom appear to be teetering on the brink of a collapse however. Alan Irvine is tasked with turning the clubs fortunes around and his mission may have just become a whole lot harder after recent news concerning his star striker.
According to BBC News, Berahino has been arrested for drink driving and has been released on bail until December. It appears the front man was stopped on 22 October just outside Cheshire and will now face questioning over his actions. According to a police spokeswoman Berahino had been ‘travelling at a high speed’. This is sure to anger the young forwards manager, with Irvine set to discipline his player alongside any punishment the law may hand down.
Although the arrest will not stop Berahino from representing his club in the coming months, the player’s state of mind could be cause for concern. West Brom lack a striker of the same calibre and if the young Englishman is not firing on all cylinders the Baggies could find themselves embroiled in a relegation scrap come the new year.

Berahino is expected to receive a hefty fine for his actions and this will not be the first time the player has caused controversy. Last season Berahino’s attitude was called into question following a dressing room bust up with senior team mate James Morrison.
The rest of the squad were furious with the young man’s lack of respect following his lazy display on the pitch.
With Berahino having threatened Morrison with legal action, it’s ironic that he now finds himself on the wrong side of the law. Irvine will hope the matter can be dealt with as quietly as possible or his side could face a real case of the January blues.
