Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has made two changes to his starting XI for this evening's crunch in Champions League showdown with Borussia Dortmund, in search of the point that will guarantee qualification for the knockout stages at an absolute minimum.
Gunners fans were all too aware that midfield maestro Jack Wilshere would miss the match and at worst the next three months after damaging his ankle in Saturday's painful 2-1 defeat to Manchester United, with his place taken by Santi Cazorla.
Wojciech Szczesny also misses out through injury and is replaced by Damian Martinez , but far more surprising is the return to the starting XI of Yaya Sanogo, who with Danny Welbeck nursing a knock and Olivier Giroud was effectively Wenger's only choice to lead the line as the lone central striker.
Gunners fans will expect a reaction
No fewer than nine of the side which were caught cold by United last weekend have been called upon to produce an immediate reaction by Wenger, who desperately needs to halt a run which has seen Arsenal lose their last two Premier League games and fail to win any of their last three in all competitions.
Arsenal's last Champions League display at the Emirates was the start of that disappointing slide and saw the Gunners let a three-goal slip against Anderlecht, a capitulation which has placed extra importance on producing a positive result and performance to match against group leaders Dortmund.
Dortmund pick attacking team
The visitors have also made a dreadful start domestically and won just three Bundesliga games all season, but their Champions League form has been the exact opposite, four wins in as many matches.
Dortmund only need to avoid defeat to make sure of top spot in Group D and despite missing Mats Hummels and Marco Reus have picked a strong attacking team, which sees Ciro Immobile lead the line after scoring against Arsenal in the reverse fixture.
Arsenal may need to call upon their substitutes to finish the job against an inconsistent but occasionally brilliant Dortmund side who demolished them 3-0 earlier this season, but Welbeck is not an option available to Wenger tonight.
The England forward was not fit enough to be named as a sub but Laurent Koscielny is, alongside Lukas Podolski and Joel Campbell.
Arsenal starting XI: Martinez, Chambers, Mertesacker, Monreal, Gibbs, Arteta, Ramsey, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Cazorla, Alexis, Sanogo
Dortmund starting XI: Weidenfeller, Piszczek, Subotic, Ginter, Schmelzer, Gündogan, Bender, Mkhitaryan, Aubameyang, Grosskreutz, Immobile
