Manchester United have revived their interest in a deal for PSV Eindhoven's contract rebel Zakaria Bakkali, without question one of the most talented teenagers in European football at this present moment.
Bakkali is out of contract at the end of the season and continues to stubbornly refuse any approach from PSV to discuss terms over a new deal, which means the Belgian winger is free to sign a pre-contract agreement with United or any other interested party from January 1st.
The 18-year-old has been on the radar of United, Liverpool and Chelsea for some time, but the Daily Mail believe the Red Devils are back in a race they first entered by re-opening talks with the player's representatives first held back in the summer.
PSV have frozen star out
Bakkali is currently sidelined with a groin injury, but long before that problem emerged PSV had relegated their most promising youngster to the Jupiler League side as a result of his attitude towards staying with the Dutch side for the long-term.
Less than 12 months after making his full debut for Belgium the pacy, technically-gifted wide man now finds himself on the periphery at PSV and needing a change of scenery to revive his fortunes, perhaps regretting pulling out of a summer move to Atletico Madrid.
Van Gaal a huge admirer
Red Devils boss Louis van Gaal will no doubt be instructing his scouts to keep a close check on Bakkali over the next six weeks, in the hope of winning the race for one of brightest talents on the continent.
Van Gaal knows the Dutch market better than anyone and if still genuinely interested will be extremely confident of persuading Bakkali to make the lucrative switch to Old Trafford, despite Premier League interest.
Chelsea are also very keen on the versatile midfielder and believe he'd welcome the chance to follow Belgian superstar Eden Hazard to West London, but chances of first-team football under Jose Mourinho look limited to say the very least.
Liverpool are also a viable option for the left-winger, who now has a huge decision to make beyond his years about the right move to take his career to the next level, after coming very close to burning all hid bridges at PSV.
