Toronto Maple Leafs Left Wing Joffrey Lupul has perhaps given the most awkward interview in history after being grilled by a Leafs fan.

Most interviews focus on the hockey, the standings, play-off hopes and current runs of form, but not this one.

Whilst the team were visiting a children's hospital on Thursday, Lupul was interviewed by one of the teams younger TV reporter and what followed was the height of awkward.

The brave young interviewer led with a somewhat unusual question, asking the NHL star if he had a girlfriend?

"Aww ... that's an interesting one. Um ... no, but kind of. I don't even know how to explain it." - Lupul's answer to the unusual question

As strange as the question was, it was nothing compared to the answer it received from the Leafs player.

But if the opening question and response made things awkward, it was nothing compared to what was to come.

With the interviewer informing Lupul that lots of people find him very attractive, the scene surely became one of the strangest the NHL star has encountered.

When Lupul asked exactly who has told the young man this, his answer was in-keeping with the flow of interview so far.

"My sister and mother, and girlfriend."

Lupul left clearly flustered and somewhat confused by the interview subject was right in one statement he made.

It made good television.

Leafs need their heads straight

Joffrey Lupul's confusing love life aside, the Leafs are clearly in need of some chemistry on the ice as they currently sit fifth in the Atlantic division.

With the Leafs eight points behind the divisional leading Montreal Canadiens they will surely be looking to close that gap as soon as possible.

Coming off the back of a loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins in their last game, Toronto will be looking to return to winning ways against the Washington Capitals on Saturday night.
