Cristian Ledesma’s agent has claimed Arsenal’s interest in his player is real and the Gunners want to sign him in January as midfield cover.
As reported by Italian newspaper La Repubblica, Arsene Wenger wants to sign the experienced 32-year-old defensive midfielder as cover for injured first-team stars Jack Wilshere and Mikel Arteta. Both Arsenal midfielders face extended spells on the sidelines and Wenger wants greater strength in depth.
Arsenal fans will remember last season when the club brought in Kim Kallstrom on loan in January to bolster the squad, and it looks like Wenger will do the same again in a month’s time.
Ledesma’s agent, Vincenzo D’Ippolito, said: “It is true, Arsenal are interested in Cristian. There have been scouts [watching], we’ll see if there will be an opportunity to examine an offer.”
Ledesma’s contract is expiring at the end of the season, and while he’s an important player at Lazio, he has only made four appearances so far this season.

As a result, the Rome club may not be too worried about losing him, while the gain for Arsenal is obvious.
With Wilshere and Arteta out, Wenger admitted in his pre-match press conference on Friday that he may have to get creative in January to solve some of the squad’s shortcomings.
