Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal is often described as the inspiration for a number of impressive coaches around Europe, such as Pep Guardiola and Ronald Koeman, but being the inspiration for videos made by a Game of Thrones actress is new.
The online community of fans of the Old Trafford club were delighted on Saturday night thanks to the convincing 3-0 win over Hull City. Now they will probably be falling about in laughter when they see the latest bit of fun from Dutch actress Carice van Houten on her Instagram account..
Van Gaal’s press conferences can often be quite exciting as the former Bayern Munich and Barcelona boss is famously straight talking and has been known to lose patience with journalists from time to time.
However, Van Houten has taken a few of his more runoff the mill lines from his time in charge at Manchester United and basically mimed them. The synchronicity between her and Van Gaal’s voice is quite brilliant, if the sight of it is a little disturbing.
Van Houten has been a well-known actress in the Netherlands for some time, but she gained hoards of new fans in 2012 when she joined the cast of popular HBO show Game of Thrones. Her character is a mysterious priestess named Melisandre, who has powers of sorcery to do with service for a god named The Lord of Light.
Manchester United’s manager is an unusual subject for an actor to showcase some of their acting chops, but Van Houten’s character in Game of Thrones is often referred to as the ‘The Red Woman’ - perhaps that was a coincidental clue as to where her football allegiances lie, she seems to have a particular interest in the Red Devils anyway.
Game of Thrones is based on a series of fantasy books by author George RR Martin and, while the plot lines and characters are all very good, part of the show’s attraction has been the considerable amount of nudity involved - Van Houten included.
Shout out to 101GreatGoals for bringing these terrific vids to our attention.
