Bruno Peres scored a contender for goal of the season on Sunday evening as the Torino defender netted with a breathtaking solo effort during the narrow defeat to local rivals and Serie A leaders Juventus.
Juventus had opened the scoring courtesy of an early penalty from Arturo Vidal, a long-standing Manchester United target, before Peres was able to get his side back on terms with a goal of the highest order.
The 24-year-old first attained possession of the ball on the edge of the Torino penalty area before outstripping both Paul Pogba and Patrice Evra and embarking on a lung-busting run into opposition territory.
Vidal was next to make an attempt to halt Peres’ progress but he too was left trailing in the wake of the Brazilian full-back, who was then able to get himself a clear sight at goal as the Juventus defenders backed off.
By the time Giorgio Chiellini made the decision to press forward Peres had already started to pull the trigger, unleashing an unstoppable shot that screamed past the right hand of Marco Storari and in off the upright.
It had appeared that Peres’ stunner would be enough to secure point for Torino, but their hopes were extinguished in stoppage time as Andrea Pirlo found a dramatic winner for the champions.
Torino are now only two points outside the bottom three, while Juventus are three points clear of second-placed Roma as they pursue a fourth successive league title.
