Ander Herrera believes his Manchester United team-mate David de Gea is already one of the best goalkeepers in the world and has backed to become the outright best in the future.
De Gea is well established as the Red Devils' first choice goalkeeper despite only being 24-years-old. The Spaniard has made over 100 Premier League appearances since joining from Atletico Madrid in 2011.
After a shaky start to life at Old Trafford, De Gea has been one of the standout performers under Louis van Gaal this season. For Herrera, his compatriot is already up there with the best in the world and has the ability to become the best in the world.
"We feel he can become one of the best if not the best goalkeeper in the world"
"He has been fantastic and is one of the best players in the world at 24 years old," Herrera told ManUtd.com.
"He wants to help the team get to the top of the league, like me, like everyone. We feel he can become one of the best if not the best goalkeeper in the world."
Unfortunately, Manchester United fans may not have the opportunity to see De Gea fulfill his talent. He has just 18 months to run on his current contract and is reportedly having his head turned by reported interest from Real Madrid.
The La Liga outfit are looking for a long-term replacement to Iker Casillas and are hoping to have De Gea sealed before the veteran departs the Bernabeu. With every passing month, De Gea's position grows stronger and Manchester United could be forced to cash in on him in the summer or risk losing him for free in 2016.
Having arrived as the Premier League's most expensive goalkeeper, there was plenty of pressure on De Gea to perform. Not only that, but he was also charged with the task of replacing the solid Edwin van der Saar.
A number of high profile mistakes forced Sir Alex Ferguson to drop him in favour of Anders Lindegaard, but he has since proven his worth under Van Gaal. With the defence struggling, De Gea has put in several match-saving performances, in particular against West Ham United.
