This week on NXT, the build up to the next NXT Takeover special continued as The Lucha Dragons were in tag team action, whilst all eyes were on Finn Balor who was making his singles debut on NXT; competing in the main event against the always-impressive Tyson Kidd.

Tyler Breeze continued to show his mean streak, Enzo Amore and Big Cass were on hand to assist Carmella in any way possible. We saw more teases of Kevin Owens arriving on NXT at ‘R Evolution’ in December as Tyson Kidd emphasises how he is the new 'Hitman' after training more with Bret Hart.

RECAP

Last week on NXT we saw Becky Lynch roll-up Bayley for a victory as Charlotte came to Bayley’s aid to stop a surprise attack. The number one contenders to the NXT Tag Team Championships in the Vaudevillians took on and defeated the miniature versions of The Lucha Dragons.

Baron Corbin and Bull Dempsey both picked up very quick wins, defeating Elias Sampson and Steve Cutler respectively.

Tyson Kidd executed the Sharpshooter very well to defeat Tyler Breeze and the night also saw Enzo Amore and Big Cass defeat the team of Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder. The night also saw William Regal confirm an NXT Championship match between Adrian Neville and Sami Zayn at NXT Takeover: R Evolution where Sami Zayn vowed to leave NXT should he fail to capture the title.

NXT RESULTS

This week on NXT Tyler Breeze was opening the show as Marcus Louis continues to come to terms with his loss of hair and as expected Tyler Breeze ensured that Louis knew just how ugly he really was and ended Louis’ misery inside three minutes by hitting the Beauty Shot for the victory. But Marcus Louis is playing his crazy character very well and it could work well for him in the coming months if he is given a feud, potentially against Sylvester Lefort.

Next, we had Enzo Amore and Big Cass inside the ring but unfortunately they weren’t in action. Instead Enzo Amore told Carmella that they had a surprise for and it was Carmella’s first opponent in NXT, Blue Pants. Blue Pants was treated to her own entrance music courtesy of Big Cass and it didn’t last long, Carmella hit her with a dropkick and locked in the leg crossface for the victory.

After the match Carmella was laughing at Enzo while a backstage segment saw Finn Balor telling the cameraman to tell Tyson Kidd to send the tape of their match to Bret Hart.

The NXT Tag Team Champions were in action as The Lucha Dragons took on the team of Tye Dillinger and Jason Jordan. It was a good non-title match for the time it was given as it allowed Dillinger and Jordan to get some offence into the match and not get squashed. But in the end the hot tag by Sin Cara saw Kalisto clean up the ring and eventually hitting the Salida Del Sol to Jason Jordan for the win.

A vignette for Kevin Owens aired and it was a nice surprise to see him donning the ‘FIGHT’ t-shirt he is famous for; and announcing that he will arrive and take over in two weeks.

Bayley was out next and basically called out Becky Lynch and Sasha Banks and they obliged after they were called bullies. Banks and Lynch came down to the ring and Bayley was attacked from behind by the impressive Becky Lynch as they both stomped away on her until the referee’s split things up – Sasha Banks vs. Charlotte for the NXT Women’s Championship at NXT Takeover: R Evolution.

ENTERTAINING MAIN EVENT

Before the main event we were treated to an entertaining backstage segment between Tyson Kidd and his wife Natalya as she mentioned she was excited for Kidd to face Finn Balor but in typical Tyson Kidd fashion; he completely cut her out. He stated he has been working with Bret Hart and that he is the new Hitman. He talked about Finn Balor being someone who won’t be able to live up to his own hype but admitted he is good, but not that good that he can beat Kidd. Natalya went in for a hug, Tyson – who was donning a brilliant cat t-shirt – ignored the hug and went to FaceTime his cats.

The final vignette of the evening before the main event and it was a brilliant silent movie featuring The Vaudevillians. The scenario; The Lucha Dragons are robbing a bank and it is up to the Vaudevillians to stop them but they opt to do a training montage first. Aiden English proceeds to do push-ups whilst Simon Gotch ends up in a fist fight; with a bear. They find the miniature versions of the Lucha Dragons and somehow become the NXT Tag Team Champions after TNT explodes. A great promo to build up the Vaudevillians and continuing the hype to their title match.

As expected, a brilliant match but the ending wasn’t great but at the same time it was understandable as to why it needed to happen. Plenty of technical wrestling and back and forth action as Tyson continued his antics of hiding behind his wife and playing this heel role perfectly. The highlight of the match saw Tyson Kidd lock in a chinlock and ordered the referee to ask Balor if he quits, Balor declined and Kidd ordered the referee to ask him again in Irish.

The finish saw the action being picked up in pace, Finn Balor hit a running knee to the face and went for the double foot stomp on the top rope but The Ascension ran down to cost Balor the match. Hideo Itami came in for the save and a big brawl followed to close the show.
