The WWE Universe may have spent the past ten months hoping to see a CM Punk return, but that is nothing compared to the time they've spent waiting for bonafide legend of the ring Stone Cold Steve Austin to make a comeback to the WWE ring.
Unfortunately, as with Punk, it looks like they will have to keep on waiting after the veteran Austin delivered a damning blow to speculation that he could be set for a dramatic return to the WWE.
Speaking ahead of his highly-anticipated podcast with WWE CEO Vince McMahon, Stone Cold had a fairly emphatic answer when quizzed on the likelihood of a shock comeback.
Asked by WWE.com if there was "any chance" of seeing the famous black trunks and boots in a WWE ring in the future, Stone Cold responded with a typically blunt answer.
"As we speak right now, no."
It is hardly the answer avid WWE fans were looking for from a star who has remained hugely popular despite not fighting in the WWE full time since 2003.

Goes against reports
The answer from Stone Cold jars with recent rumors which suggested the veteran could be set, either for a feud with fellow legend Hulk Hogan, or a blockbuster match against Triple H at WrestleMania 31.
Hogan has indeed been trying to engage with Austin with several public put downs in recent weeks but, so far as the former is concerned, it doesn't look like it will lead to anything.
Stone Cold could of course simply be attempting to quell the speculation in order to make any future appearance truly memorable - It wouldn't be the first time the WWE has sought to fool its fan base in search of the shock factor.
And with Austin remaining close to the likes of Vince McMahon, and having appeared sporadically at WWE events in recent years, it wouldn't be ridiculous to think this might be the case on this occasion.
Still, it would have been nice to hear the man himself suggest there was some progress in finally getting him another match in the WWE.
